The Alumnae Theatre
The Alumnae Theatre is housed in Toronto's old Fire Hall Number 4, constructed in 1905. The building was saved from demolition in 1971-72 by the University Alumnae Drama Club (now the Alumnae Theatre Company) who negotiated with the City of Toronto to convert the building for use as a theatre. Ron Thom (whose work includes Massey College at the University of Toronto and the Shaw Festival Theatre) carried out the conversion in 1972. Many parts of the theatre building allude to its former use as a fire hall.
