The Market Gallery
The Market Gallery is located in the South St. Lawrence Market in one of Toronto's most historic neighbourhoods, first settled in 1793. A recognized market area since 1803, this vibrant downtown community boasts some of the finest examples of 19th-century architecture in the City. Nearby are such noted and historically significant structures as the St. Lawrence Hall (1850), St. James Cathedral (1853, tower 1873) and the distinctive, wedge-shaped Gooderham "flat-iron" Building (1892.) Located on the second floor of the South St. Lawrence Market, the Market Gallery occupies the site of the civic council chamber, the only remaining section of Toronto's original City Hall (1845-1899).
