Bloor/Yonge Intersection
The Bloor/Yonge intersection is the crossroads for two of Toronto's key subway lines and surface throughways. Yonge Street is the most famous and busiest road in Toronto which starts at the end of Lake Ontario and runs through downtown, continuing north all the way to the city of Barrie. Yonge Street was founded by John Graves Simcoe, the Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1793. Bloor Street is the other major east-west commercial thoroughfare in Toronto. The street is named after Joseph Bloor a developer of this area in the 19th Century who founded the Village of Yorkville in 1830.
