Cumberland House University of Toronto
Architect Frederic Cumberland built Cumberland House for his family while he was working on some of Toronto's most beloved monuments, including St. James Cathedral, Osgoode Hall and our own University College. Conceived as a 33 room country villa and completed in 1860, the house later served as the official residence for Ontario's Lieutenant Governors. Acquired by U of T in 1923, it has been the home of the faculty of law and the department of history among others, and is now the International Student Centre, a multi-cultural, and a multi-national meeting place for the many hundreds of students who come to U of T from around the world.
